What is Move it Mama?
Move it Mama is an online community connected through exercise. With a current membership of over 5,000 women, Move it Mama delivers 10 LIVE workouts per week via Facebook LIVE. Workouts are delivered through a private Facebook group called #spreadthesparkle, and later migrated to our website platform.
If you want to workout with Move it Mama OFF Facebook, workouts are accessible through the private member area on our website (the ‘workouts’ tab in the main menu navigation)
Do I have to be a mum to be in Move it Mama?
NO. Leece - Founder of Move it Mama - started the business when in the throes of young children and very time poor, and with many other mums joining her in those days before the business launched, it sort of coined the name Move it Mama. This doesn’t mean you need to be a mother to benefit from the workouts or community - there really is something for everyone. Especially given - whether a mother or not - most of us are time poor and can really benefit from an efficient and effective workout from the comforts of home!
What type of workouts are on Move it Mama?
You can try any one of our workouts on our timetable page. No matter your fitness level, we recommend participating in a variety of workouts from the timetable. When starting out and building fitness, from the beginning and back to basics are great options to really hone in on your technique and build overall fitness. Workouts progress in difficulty and intensity in the likes of our HIIT, loaded (weights), strength and box jam sessions.
Workouts on Move it Mama are delivered by sisters Lisa (Founder), Jess and Char. Also joining us is Ainslie (yoga), Kirsten and Sarah. As Move it Mama has been in operation now nearly six years, there are over 1,500 previously recorded workouts available in #spreadthesparkle and over 1,000 available in our website library (ordered by workout type).

Do I need equipment?
The only equipment you need is for loaded; all other workouts are bodyweight only. When starting out, you might want to use an incline, such as a bench or chair, when doing some of the plank based work, or for supporting you through movements like lunges and squats.
What do I need for loaded?
We suggest one set of dumbbells and a kettlebell. Our advice on what specific weight to get may vary depending on your history with exercise and weights and your current situation, so if you would like specific and tailored advice, feel free to reach out to jess@moveitmama.co.nz.
If you are relatively new to weights, we suggest starting out with dumbbells anywhere between 3 and 5kg and a kettlebell somewhere between 8 and 12kg. As you are working out from home and likely won’t have access to a full selection of weights, it could be that in some exercises you could do with a heavier or lighter weight, but this is to be expected. As you build strength, you can then get a heavier set and eventually utilise a ‘heavy’ and a ‘light’ set, which can be really enjoyable and effective. If/when purchasing a kettlebell, having this be heavier than the combined weight of your dumbbells is really useful in terms of variety. That way you have more weight options: no weight, one dumbbell held in both hands, two dumbbells and then the kettlebell. The loaded instructor will do their best to offer suggestions with modifying or adapting all exercises. Loaded is offered 3x per week on our LIVE timetable (Tuesday, Friday, Sunday).
I joined Move it Mama before May 2022 and can’t access the website/workout library.
If you joined Move it Mama before May 2022 and have yet to sign up to the website officially, you won’t have a website log in - your subscription will be housed in our old platform. If you would like to use the website, you must sign up at www.moveitmama.co.nz/join-now as if you’re not a member. On completion, you will be able to access the workout library. Once you have done this, please email jess@moveitmama.co.nz to confirm so that we can cancel your old account and ensure you’re not double charged in future. How do I find the workouts on Facebook?
On joining Move it Mama, you are prompted to join our private Facebook group called #spreadthesparkle. Once you’re a member, a shortcut to this would be via the ‘groups’ icon within Facebook. From there, you can find different workouts by exploring the ‘topics’ - use the magnifying search glass and type in a # followed by the workout type i.e., #backtobasics - and all back to basics workouts will display. However, often the easiest way to find a workout within #spreadthesparkle is to use the ‘featured’ section. At all times, the most recent workouts are at the top of the page in this ‘featured’ section.
If/when using the website, all workouts are filed by category (workout type) and in date order - you will find the workout library via the 'workouts’ tab. From there, workouts are categorised by type ie., ‘Back to basics’, ‘Box Jam’, ‘Loaded’ etc.
What happens if the live workout times don’t suit me?
If you miss a LIVE workout, you can go back and complete the workout once it's posted, whenever it suits you (either via the Facebook group #spreadthesparkle or your member log in on the website). You can revisit a workout as many times as you like, as once the LIVE session is over, workouts are permanently saved to the group/website. The private group on Facebook is called #spreadthesparkle.
How do I join a LIVE workout?
About 2-3 minutes before the start time of a LIVE workout, go into Facebook and into the workout group (#spreadthesparkle). The LIVE workout should appear at the top of the page. If it doesn't appear straight away, keep refreshing the #spreadthesparkle page OR try refreshing your Facebook news feed, until the workout pops up.
If you are struggling to find the LIVE workout, go into the group (#spreadthesparkle) and as you scroll, find the name of whoever is delivering the LIVE - their profile photo will have a red ring around it which is how you know that person is LIVE - click into their profile to find the session. Another way is to go straight to the group (#spreadthesparkle), go to ‘media’ and ‘videos’ (or ‘photos’ if on a phone) - and in here you can go to the latest video (which will be the current LIVE one).
If you are late to a LIVE workout, you won’t be able to rewind it and start at the beginning while the workout is in process. In this instance, you need to wait until the LIVE workout is finished and posted to the page/website, before you can start from the beginning.
Live workouts are migrated to the website platform before midday every day.
The news feed in #spreadthesparkle is all over the place in order - why?
We can’t control the Facebook algorithm and unfortunately can’t store our workouts in chronological order on Facebook. We simply have very little control over the news feed order, which is why we ‘pin’ the most recent workouts to ‘Featured'.
Using either the search function or the Featured section is the most straight forward way to find workouts on the Facebook page, as explained above. Our website workout library is otherwise very easy to navigate with all workouts stored chronologically.
Can I comment on posts in #spreadthesparkle?
Yes, please do! While you can't write your own posts, you can comment on posts within the group. We LOVE comments, but also understand if it isn’t your thing. Getting in, doing your workout and disappearing is totally fine, too!
You won’t be able to comment or engage with the workouts if working out with us via the website.
I’m a member and need to update my payment details - how do I do this?
If you joined Move it Mama before 03/05/2022 and you have not transitioned your membership over to our new website you can update your payment details here.
Alternatively, if you have a member log in to the website, you can manage your payments by going via the ‘my subscriptions’ tab. You MUST update it via the specific subscription - please follow the instructions below (email jess@moveitmama.co.nz if you have difficulty or experience problems).
Log into your customer account
Click Account in the navigation menu
Click Memberships or Subscriptions, then click the membership or subscription you want to change
In Settings, click Payment method
Click Update Payment Method, then select a saved payment method or click add new payment method to enter a new payment method.
Click Save.
How do I join Move it Mama?
Join Move it Mama here.
Once you’ve made payment and entered your details, you will end up on a confirmation screen confirming you have joined. This page will have a link that directs you to joining the Facebook workout group. Please ensure you click on this link at this time and invite yourself to the group. You will also be sent an email confirming your membership with instructions and information on effectively using your membership. At the time of joining, you will create a log-in to our private members area on the website, and from there access workouts on the website via the ‘workouts’ tab.
How much do I pay and how do I cancel?
A membership to Move it Mama costs $15 per month. If you join and pay for example on the 25th March, your next $15 payment will be charged on or around the 25th of April. There is no lock in contract with a membership and you can cancel anytime by logging into your account on the website, or emailing cancellations@moveitmama.co.nz.
How can I pay?
Currently, we offer credit/debit card monthly payment only. You will pay $15 on sign up for the month ahead, and all future payments will be debited off that same card.
What else is available in Move it Mama?
Move it Mama prides itself on its community. We love to engage with our members on social posts and workouts, as well as through in person workouts, local boot camps or meet and greets whenever possible. Within Move it Mama are LIVE chats with Founder Leece and her sister's Jess and Char, LIVE chats on specific subjects such as nutrition and pelvic health (with qualified experts and Move it Mama members), as well as other informative content delivered on an ad hoc basis. You will find this content categorised both within the Facebook group and in the private member area, where applicable.
